The Aboriginal Shelter is a mat and blanket program operated by the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society since January 12, 2009 and located at another facility. The address is 201 Central Street which is close to Main Street Skytrain Station. THERE IS ZERO TOLERANCE TO VIOLENCE AND USE OF ALCOHOL AND/ OR ILLEGAL DRUGS. The Aboriginal Shelter is open to all cultures (19 years and older) on a first come, first serve basis. There is space for 100 clients with separated areas for males and females. Doors open at 4:30pm. When signed in, clients receive a blanket and mat and two tickets (one for an hot dinner meal and one for a sandwich/snack for breakfast in the morning).Wake up calls are available if needed. Dinner is served between 6:15 and 6:30. Followed by free time to 11pm, at which time, the doors are closed and a bed check is made. Any empty mats are collected and distributed to a wait-list until the facility is full. From this point, there are no in and out privileges. Sandwich and snack are distributed after 8am. Wake call is at 9am and the out time is 10am.
